What we do

30% of Indonesian children suffer malnutrition from limited access to micronutrients. The Forest Fruits and Rural Nutrition program aims to determine the role that tropical forest fruits (TFF) could play in alleviating rural childhood malnutrition.

Our aims:

Stage 1:

Assess the micronutrient composition of Artocarpus, Baccaurea, Daryodes, Diallium, Dimocarpus, Mangifera, Nephelium and Salacca spp fruits.

Stage 2:

Identify TFF that act as accumulators of minerals at low concentrations in tropical forest soils.

Stage 3:

Identify socio-economic & cultural barriers to exploitation of TFF. WS will be attended by staff & students from Indonesia & UK.
